BUYING PHILOSOPHY
Whenever possible, we purchase Fair Trade (coffee, chocolate, cocoa, etc.) or goods made or grown locally in Vermont within a 100 mile radius. During the summer, the bulk of our produce comes from here in the Plainfield area.
We pride ourselves on our minimal price markup, but as a small co-op, we are constrained by both cash flow and storage issues. When our distributors sell us partial cases, we are ineligible for the price breaks that larger co-ops receive by buying in bulk. This is one reason that we stress that our members do their own bulk purchasing, through us, as the best means of getting the products they seek at the prices they can manage.
