Co-op News

Management Transitions
The Board is hiring for a General Manager.  The process for hiring a GM is different from the hiring process for any other position at the Co-op, in that the Board of Directors is responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and evaluating our GM.  The job description and desired qualifications are available on the Co-op website (  We are currently accepting applications and will set up preliminary interviews in early January.  Please spread the word!

What can you do?  Please help spread the word!  We know there are passionate, skilled candidates out there who value local food and the co-operative business model.  Maybe you have experience hiring or just time and interest – let us know!  We are looking for a couple volunteers to support our hiring committee.  And next time you are at the Co-op (which we hope will be soon), we encourage you to let the staff, Kevin and Jean know your appreciation.  Our Co-op depends on our dedicated and skilled staff!

What has the Board of Directors been doing lately?

You can find all of the Board's minutes on our website at

Are you using gift cards?

Shout Out to Local Farmers and Producers!!

Rhapsody Natural Foods - Plainfield Coop is happy to carry locally produced organic Tempeh, Miso, Natto, and Mochi from the fine folks at Rhapsody! We also continue to sell tons of their egg rolls, though they are currently prepared by another local vendor keeping to the same high quality.
In addition to sourcing all ingredients as local as possible, Rhapsody is “ committed to producing foods that uphold their traditional value in an effort to nourish our bodies and community. We are passionate about fermentation. Fermented foods contain beneficial probiotic bacteria, are full of digestive enzymes that aid in digestion, support immunity and help nutrients and minerals assimilate more easily. Eat something fermented at each meal!  Many of our products are certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers. Our goal is not to only meet the organic standards but to exceed them, as the national standards of organic become less representative of the intention on which it was based."

Staff Pick of the Month

This month's Staff Pick is from Deb Barnwell.

Deb's pick is Sweet Rowen's Cheese Curds. Squeaky, salty, buttery chunks of fresh "cheddar'd" and milled curds are a farmstead classic. They are best eaten fresh when they still have their squeak, but as they age they become more like mild cheddar or mozzarella. They are delicious for snacking, pizza topping, grilled cheese, nachos, and of course poutine!
