The Board is continuing to prioritize addressing multiple issues with our building and infrastructure. We have addressed our failing cooler components by purchasing and installing a new compressor and two evaporators. Thanks to a well-coordinated effort between our Co-op staff, volunteers and our refrigeration technician, installation was done with minimal interruption to our sale of refrigerated products. The Co-op Building Committee built and installed a new platform to support the outside compressor. But the cooler reach-in doors and wall insulation are extremely inefficient and will need future upgrades.
The Board has been gathering expert input about replacing the roof and insulation package over the grocery section. The current roof leaks in multiple spots, the insulation is minimal, compromised by the leaks, and there is no vapor barrier. This is an expensive improvement. The Board is doing the needed research into a roof replacement that will serve us well for an estimated 30-40 years, prioritizing function, efficiency and cost. We are working to have cost estimates and design concepts available to the membership at our annual meeting.
Building issues of concern that still need to be addressed include the structural integrity of the back wall, our heating system and the life expectancy of the poly roof over our greenhouse.
We will address the expense associated with these significant facility issues through community fundraising efforts and by continuing to successfully grow our revenue and profits from sales. All members are encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting and add to this conversation.
